AGE GROUP (PRE-HS) SWIMMING
Starts Sept 8, Wed with a meeting and evaluation swim.
8 and Unders - 6:00-6:25pm in pool. Parents across hall in Rm 156 for short meeting
9-10 - 6:30-6:55pm in pool. Parents across hall in Rm 156.
11-14 - 7:00-7:25pm in pool. Parent across hall in Rm 156.
Purpose - double check on appropriate placement for swimmer; meet and greet coaches; parent committee heads share with parents on how to assist program and answer questions
Evaluations for tiers usually reflect mostly :
swimmers age - whatever the individual's age is going to finsh the season
attendance - a percentage of practices attended out of amount possible
ability base - the performance of the swimmer observed by coach
appropriate behavior - one's treatment towards athletes, coaches, parents, volunteers, equipment, facility, and oneself to stay on WVA
FYI - If a swimmer significantly improves, a coach will consider a move up once a month, dependent on room for an athlete in a higher tier
There maybe a prorated fee of an additional charge if this happens. All would be discussed with parent before any changes occur from the coach.

Training Tiers ....
Blue -
Mon, Tues, Wed 5:10-6:05pm in Shallow Pool (there will be times that the group will swim in the deeper lanes)
Also, Fridays are available... 6:15-7:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). This group will not be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet.
Max size is 18.
Green -
Mon, Tues, Wed 6:05-7:00pm in Shallow Pool (there will be times that the group will swim in the deeper lanes)
Also, Fridays are available... 6:15-7:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). This group will not be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet.
Max size is 18.
The Blue and Green Tiers will be for individuals developing stroke technique. Typically, the participants are 5-8 years old. One has either completed in one season of competitive swimming or completed the highest level of lessons. One must be able to complete 25 yards of Freestyle legally, and 25 yards of Backstroke legally. These individuals are to be in at least 3 time trials on Fridays. This group will be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet and perform at least 3 time trials. Parent must work 3 time trials and the oct weekend meet. If any of the required work does not happen, then the family will forfiet their deposit.
The three days offered for Blue and Green are M, T, W. If there is a cancellation so a day is missed, we will provide a Thurs of that week. For example, if a Tues is canelled because of a HS swim meet, we will try to offer a TH, that is days later.
Bronze -
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 7:10-8:20pm in Lanes 5-8
Also, Fridays are available... 6:15-7:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). This group will be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet and perform at least 3 time trials. Parent must work 3 time trials and the oct weekend meet. If any of the required work does not happen, then the family will forfiet their deposit.
The swimmer must perform the 4 strokes legally. Dive for races and training etiquette will be demonstrated. Coordination of breathing, kicking, pulling, in strokes are addressed. Turns will also be worked on. Typically an inexperienced 9 year old, eight years old or younger find themself in this tier. Distances of 50 and 100's are to be mastered.

Silver -
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 6:55-8:20pm in Lanes 1-4
Also, Fridays are available... 6:15-7:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). This group will be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet and perform at least 4 time trials. Parent must work 3 time trials and the oct weekend meet. If any of the required work does not happen, then the family will forfiet their deposit.
This training tier consists of swimmers that are legal in all four stokes with turns & dives. With experience in competition and training etiquette, a swimmer, typically 9-11 yrs old, will perform 100's and be introduced 200's.
Max 40
Gold -

Also, Fridays are available... 5:15-6:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). This group will be in the Oct 8-10 swim meet and perform at least 4 time trials. Parent must work 3 time trials and the oct weekend meet. If any of the required work does not happen, then the family will forfiet their deposit.
Typically very experienced 11 year olds and older will be in this tier. An increase awareness in race execution with regards to plan, repetition, energy percentages are reflected upon in meet and practice performances. These individuals swim legal 200 IM's and the 500.
Max 40
SR -
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 5:15-7:10pm in Lanes 5-8 and Friday 6-7am.
Also available on Fridays... 5:15-6:30pm most of this time will be about water polo. There are also competitions planned for time trials (AKA Friday Night at the Races" and some social event(s). HS Girls will not be in Oct weeknd meet.
Most swimmers in the Senior tier will be in high school. Some pre high school athletes maybe eligiable to move up as their experience, training, performances, and attendence proves to be ready for the challenge (Coach's decision)
HS BOYS -
They are to swim in the Senior Group
Practice time is M-TH 5:15-7:10pm, FRI 6-7am
Also, Friday nights are spent doing open swim/water polo 5:15-6:30pm
Three Friday nights are spent to compete at the "Friday Night at the Races"
The Three Friday at the Races (US Time Trials) for them are in Oct, Nov, Feb
Dates for this - Starts Sept 8, Wed until the start of IHSA Season (Nov 22, Mon 2:45pm)
IHSA season is over when an athlete completes in their final swim meet. The swimmer is encouraged to return to train and compete in a US Swim Meet.
HS Boys WP -
Outside of Friday nights at WV ....
If a HS boy wants to compete in Water Polo before Nov 22, he should contact Coach Payette as there are tournaments available.
Tourney dates are Sept 3-6 at Navy and Nov 6-7 at Michigan. Spots are limited.
HS GIRLS -
They are to join in the Senior Group.
They can start once they complete their IHSA swim season.
Practice time Mon-Thurs 5:15-7:10pm, Fri 6-7am
Also, Friday nights are spent doing open swim/water polo 5:15-6:30pm
Three Friday nights are spent to compete at the "Friday Night at the Races"
The Three Friday at the Races (US Time Trials) for them are in Dec, Jan, Feb
They are done when finished competing in their final meet or Feb 18

Friday at the Races- aka home time trials -

Our Home meet

Away meets will firm up later as US Swimming firms up the season's meet schedule.
WV Aquatics will be swimming in an away meet typically the first weekend of each full month of swimming.
Judging from years past, the away meets are Nov 6,7 Mavs at Metea Valley Mavs, Jan 7 at Lyons, Feb 11,12 Fox at Neuqua Valley, and we are currently communicating with Delta, Bullets, Hinsdale and Downers Grove programs as areas identified to be close who may be hosting meets.
